VISIT the Ionosphere!

We hams just love the Ionosphere, but sometimes we need a little refresher on how much we REALLY love it.

Imagine a super-duper invisible blanket way up high in the sky, much higher than airplanes fly. That’s the ionosphere!

It’s made of tiny, electrically charged pieces of air. The Sun’s energy makes these pieces charged.

What it does is super cool: it acts like a giant mirror for radio waves! This means that when HAMS (who are like super radio explorers) send out radio signals, the ionosphere can bounce them back down to Earth, helping them talk to people far, far away, even on the other side of the world!

Watch this video, it’s 3 minutes you’ll never get back! But you’ll love every second. Thanks Nasa!
